Abstract

The phenomenon of venting among Guidance and Counseling (BK) students shows the importance of empathy and racial values in friendship relationships. The value of raso in Minangkabau culture is related to sensitivity to feelings, understanding each other, and caring for the feelings of others. This study aims to find out the experience of BK students in feeling the empathy of friends when venting and the meaning of the value of raso in friendship. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological study type. The data collection technique was carried out through structured interviews with 4th semester BK students of Sjech State Islamic University, M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. The results of the study show that students feel comfortable confiding in friends who are able to listen well, keep secrets, not judge, and give empathetic responses. The process of venting makes the interviewees feel relieved, understood, and more emotionally calm. In addition, the value of raso is seen in the attitude of mutual respect, maintaining feelings, and building trust in friendship. The conclusion of this study is that empathy and racial values have an important role in building healthy friendship relationships and supporting self-disclosure in BK students.
