Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of local wisdom–based counseling in improving students' emotional regulation to overcome anxiety in the era of globalization. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature study approach on various scientific journals related to mental health, anxiety disorders, and cultural interventions. The results of the study indicate that anxiety disorders are a significant issue with a global prevalence of around 19%, where students are a vulnerable group due to academic pressure and social media. Counseling approaches that integrate local cultural values have been proven to provide emotional support, strengthen cultural identity, and increase acceptance of counseling services. The integration of emotional management strategies with local wisdom synergistically enhances students' emotional regulation abilities and resilience. Local wisdom–based counseling is effective as a comprehensive cultural approach in helping students manage anxiety and improve emotional regulation. These findings imply the importance for educational institutions to adopt and implement counseling services that are sensitive to local culture as both preventive and curative efforts to maintain students' mental health amid the flow of globalization.
