Abstract

Mental health is an important aspect of the lives of young people, especially amid various demands such as academic pressures, social relationships, and rapid technological development. In facing these conditions, the ability to recognize oneself, or self-awareness, becomes essential. This paper aims to discuss the role of self-awareness as an important factor in maintaining the mental health of the younger generation. The method used is a literature review by examining various relevant sources related to self-awareness and mental health. The results of the study show that self-awareness plays a role in helping individuals understand their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, enabling them to manage stress more effectively, improve self-control, and make wiser decisions. Young people with good self-awareness tend to have more stable psychological conditions. Conversely, low self-awareness can increase the risk of mental health problems, such as anxiety and excessive stress. Therefore, it is important to develop self-awareness through various means, such as education, supportive social environments, and counseling services. Thus, self-awareness can be a key factor in maintaining and improving the mental health of the younger generation.
